The image in your mind will manifest in your life and in your body. And this is the simple reason behind both success and failure in exercise.
Not many visit the gym because they love to sweat. Nearly all go because exercise could be a way to reach their goal. They want to feel great, they want to be slim, or look fantastic in an upcoming reunion or a wedding. They want reduced cholesterol and be healthy and they want to be attractive.
In the 21st century we seem to suffer from shorter attention spans. We text XO instead of picking up the iphone and saying I love you. And goal setting? Who has time for that? Let’s get going now. And when we do, the attention span to maintain that goal is lost in couple of minutes or couple of day before distractions take us to another direction.
Generally this change of direction keeps us in the endless cycle of trying and neve attaining.
We start high intensity exercise program and push for a couple of weeks and then we stop. We hop from one diet to another instead of establishing a nutrition plan.
As amazing as it may sound, because of this, we develop a skill. We hone that skill and that skill is to fail. We learn to start and stop. We learn to become very skilled in trying and giving up.
But there is hope if we recognize this pattern.
One effective way to learn to achieve instead of learn to try is visualization. Visualization has been often called the divine ability. It’s your ability to clearly see yourself in another state of being than your current one. It is your ability to feel the ripples on your six pack abs when you run your hands over them before that happens. Imagination is your ability to slip in your skinny pants in front of the mirror before you slim down. It is your skill to hear in your mind the praise from others when they say, “Wow, You look amazing. How did you do it?”
By walking the walk and talking the talk in your new fit body, in your imagination, your behavior transforms. The image you set up in your heart and mind, steadily draws you closer the way you want to be. The more clearly you see yourself in the desired state, the more you can concentrate and implement your plans without being distracted.
When planning your workout routines, don’t just concentrate on getting the workout done, instead imagine the results workout bring you. The more you practice this, the easier it will become and you’ll find your exercises to go smoother and be more productive. You’ll notice a shift from “I want to exercise” instead of “I have to exercise.”
It is an incredible feeling to master this skill of achievement instead of being slave to the continuous cycle of trying. Start on your way to mastership today. Your new life and body is waiting for YOU. What are you waiting for?
